How to Romanticize Your Chores at Home

Some people find housework to be somewhat “therapeutic” and actually enjoy it, but for most of us, we don’t find joy in cleaning. We tend to put things off until the laundry is piled up and overflowing in the basket, or until one side of the sink is full, and then do the dishes. All of us like a clean house, but we may not be the ones who want to clean it.

Our chores will always be there, waiting for us until we finally give in, so I wanted to think of a way that I could possibly view the chores differently. I decided to put more thought into those neglected chores. Here is how I did it, and how I changed the way I looked at household cleaning tasks.

I saw a trend about finding “romance in your home’s surroundings”. It encourages people to find beauty in the ordinary moments of their lives. To romanticize something is to make it seem more attractive or interesting than it normally is. Trying this trend with chores and cleaning was a great place to start!

Add Pretty Cleaning Supplies

  • Consider replacing your laundry basket with a pretty wicker one or one lined with fabric.
  • Buy a pretty sponge and use it when cleaning the sink.
  • Find a fun dusting mitt or cloth that you like the look of.
  • Create a pretty cleaning basket. Add glass spray bottles and make your own window cleaner that is organic and smells like orange or lemon oil.
  • Freshen up your spaces as you clean them by lighting some candles and opening those blinds.
  • Buy matching hangers that are lined with velvet and throw out the old metal and plastic ones.

(Here is a link for how to make your own wooden hangers a “shabby-chic style”).

Adding Romance in Your Home

Once you have your new cleaning tools, an attractive laundry basket, and a few of your homemade cleaning supplies, you can also incorporate essential oils into your cleaning and make the house smell amazing! Put on your favorite music and start cleaning with your new tools. Cleaning the bathroom can be so much more fun when you are smelling fresh scents and listening to your favorite tunes.

Enjoy the Process

When you don’t dread the process of cleaning so much, then you can slow down and enjoy the personal time. It is actually a time to collect your thoughts and decompress. Adding pleasant smells, music, and pretty things around you will make a difference. It is part of the change in your mindset, and how to make it more enjoyable.

Cleaning Is How You Care for the Home

Try to see the purpose of the cleaning. House cleaning is a way to care and preserve your home. It is a reflection of you. Find the beauty in the common moments of everyday life and this will help you find the peace in cleaning and the joy in the chores.
